Cheat: Removing nail polish from the skin around the nail

Forget remover pens! Try this little secret to removing the excess polish from the skin around the nail but without destroying the nail polish. All you need is a cotton bud! Dip it in the nail polish remover, and get scrubbing. Rub as hard as you like, the bud is soft so it wont remove any varnish from the nail, just the skin! Brilliant.

Retro Bauhaus Nail Art Tutorial

This is a nail art tutorial for Retro, Bauhaus style nails.

You will need to use 4 colours, Black, a bright yellow/white, and two extra colours of your choice. It works well with a pastel shade and a vibrate shade like in the first example. Today though I'm using a bright red and a deep blue.

First of all, setting aside the BRIGHT yellow/white, and the black, paint your whole nail with one or two coats of the lighter of the two extra colours. This would be the pastel shade if you choose one, mine is red. I use the lighter colour as the base because it is easier to paint over it if the pigment/colour in the other polishes aren't strong.

Next you need to use your bright yellow or white and create a diagonal block across each nail like shown below.

Use the base of the bush to create the straight line and stroke down towards tip of the nail (it will probably take 2-3 strokes to get the complete line across the nail). You might assume It is easier to create the line in one stroke, but this can get messy! Always do your brush strokes at a right angle to the line you are creating even if it takes 3 strokes to complete the edge (see the picture below). It might take a few coats to cover the base colour depending on the polish.

Next do the same again with the second extra colour but move down a bit so you have a thin line of the bright yellow/white left showing.

Now for the final colour, Black (or another dark alternative). Now we paint a diagonal line half way up the blue block like shown in the picture below, (dont worry about the paint around the nails, check out my  next post to see my little cheat to removing nail polish from the skin around the nail without destroying the design.

GlossyBox April 2012

Yay GlossyBox April finally arrived, I've waited a long time for this (too long if you ask me). But after all the waiting and complaining, I was very pleased at what they put in my box. I had a peek at some other peoples posts on this months box and I think I got some of the better products offered. I'm Also loving the organic/natural theme with the products this month, the box was beautiful, gorgeous colours.

I'm going to start with my favourite because I think it's just fabulous. It's the full size "Figs & Rose lip balm" which smells amazing. I was afraid to try it because it's so great to look at, amazing packaging design. But about the product, what I thought was great about this balm was how it's got texture to it, it's almost slushy which makes me believe that there is actually some natural product in there rather than the conventional gelatine like lip balms.

The next product which I also adore, is the "Ayuuri- Natural Body Wash " which was a very large sample, almost (if not) full size. I havent had the chance to use it yet but it smells great. You think by looking at it, that it's going to have a fruity/tropical smell, but it actually is a nice combination of fruit and spice, really different.

The next is this "Inika - Organic Eyeliner" which is also a very large sample. I like how it goes on quite matted, and the colour 'graphite' looks great too, it's an everyday sort of eyeliner, not too intense but not too bright and jazzy either. It's also lasts long on the skin so no need to re apply as much as other liners.

This "Caudalie - Vinosource SOS Thirst-Quenching Serum" I was excited to try, being a new product on the market. I haven't had a chance to use it properly, the instructions suggest to use it before applying moisturiser in the morning. I rubbed some on my face to try, and it dries in almost instantly which is handy, especially if you're in a rush. The sample was small, but still good to try.

And lastly the product I was least excited about was the "Kai - Perfume oil". it does smell really nice, and im intrigued to use it some time I have a long day to see how long the smell lasts. The one thing I dislike about it is how it's oil based, I know it's not going on my face, but i'm just not a fan of any oil based product for the face OR body. Being oil based however might be the key to a long lasting fragrance.

Despite the wait, i was pleased with the contents of Aprils box. I thought maybe the glossy box team would have thrown in a wee extra something for making us wait two weeks but sure, still pleased with the products.
